After the grave is covered, the practice of talqin (reminding) is performed, according to the Shafi'i and Hanbali schools of thought. A person stands by the head of the grave and calls out the deceased's name, reminding them of the core testimonies of faith, such as: "Remember what you left this world upon: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger..." . This is based on the practice of early Muslims and is a highly recommended act to provide comfort and guidance to the deceased as they begin their journey in the grave.
اذْكُرِ الْعَهْدَ الَّذِي خَرَجْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا، شَهَادَةَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ "Wahai Fulan bin Fulanah... Ingatlah perjanjian yang engkau bawa dari dunia: syahadat Laa ilaaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah."
