“She’s always been my biggest cheerleader,” Crystal says. “I was a first-generation college student, and neither of us really knew what to expect. She just knew she wanted to be there with me every step of the way.”

Command strips, a screwdriver, Allen wrenches, scissors, and a basic medical kit with pain relievers and bandages are indispensable on day one.

"I remember when I dropped Crystal’s older brother off," she said, wiping sweat from her forehead as she helped me make the bed. "It feels like the end of the world, but it’s just the start. You’re going to do great."
